Localization, billed per word corrected to seat .

Every other tool meters your content — hosted words, stored strings, or keys — and several multiply it by the number of languages you ship. Lingvo meters people. Owners and admins are billed; translators are free, and words are never counted.

40,000 source words × 14 languages = 560,000 hosted words
The multiplication

You wrote it once. They bill it 14 times.

40,000 source words, 14 languages, and not one of those strings changed. On a tool that bills hosted words — Crowdin, Transifex, Weblate — you are billed for all 560,000 of them. We bill for the people with keys to the workspace.

Two people can change the workspace, so two people are billed. Translators and viewers are free, and there is no limit on either.

What you pay for Owner and admin seats Hosted words — source words multiplied by target languages, across the whole account Processed words per year, plus advanced seats. Hosted words are unlimited Seats plus managed source words, metered separately per product
Entry paid plan Studio $19 per seat / month Pro $59/mo, or $50/mo billed annually Explorer $169/mo, or $144/mo billed annually Software UI/UX $525/mo, billed annually
What that buys Unlimited keys, languages, words and projects 60,000 hosted words, 2 private projects 60,000 processed words a year, 5 projects, 10 languages 1,000,000 managed words, 5 projects, 15 seats

Translators billed? No — translators and viewers are free and unlimited No — unlimited translators and proofreaders on paid plans No — standard seats unlimited; manager seats capped Unclear — TMS seats are unlimited, Strings seats are capped
If you hit the limit Machine translation pauses. Keys, languages and words have no limit to hit Notice, then 10 days to upgrade, then translator access is suspended. Data is kept The affected feature stops until usage drops or the plan is adjusted Some features become restricted until capacity is added
Free tier Yes — 1 seat, 1 project, 250 AI credits a month, no card Yes — 60,000 hosted words; free-plan translations are donated to Crowdin's memory No — 14-day trial No — 14-day trial
Where they beat us

All three sell human translation through vendor marketplaces; we do not. All three ship over-the-air translation delivery with mobile SDKs, in-context editors and SAML single sign-on. Phrase adds a full translation management system for documents and long-form content. Crowdin lists more than 700 integrations.

Cheaper options exist

If your project is open source, Weblate's Libre plan and Crowdin's open-source programme are free, and both Weblate and Tolgee can be self-hosted at no licence cost. If your string count is small and stable, POEditor starts around $17 a month and Tolgee has a free tier. Lingvo is built for a product team that keeps adding locales — not for every case.

Competitor figures observed on 11 August 2026 from each vendor's own pricing page: Crowdin, Lokalise, Phrase. Plans marked contact-sales publish no price. Vendors change pricing; if you find one of these out of date, tell us and we will correct it.

Plurals get every CLDR category the locale actually has, and QA runs as you type rather than at the end.

Three commands, and one of them says no

The CLI and the editor stay in the same loop as the code they support. The gate is the point: a missing plural fails the build rather than reaching a user.

Who pays

Two of these four cost nothing

Translators are invited and unlimited on every plan, including free.

Cost per person, per month
Role Can do Cost
Owner Everything, including billing $19
Admin Structure, members, providers $19
Translator Write and approve translations $0
Viewer Read everything, change nothing $0

Free is a hard cap, not an overage. Running out stops the machine, not the team.
